I began my painting by randomly using loose charcoal and water, playing with adding and subtracting pigment and just let the medium decide where it should be. I added transparent acrylic ink. I used no reference material but let the under painting tell me where to go. From there I could “see” a medieval village emerge. Because of my love of horses there just had to be horses! Layering with pan and soft pastel was next along with drawing with compressed charcoal. Voila! Fun!
