Toward the Within

This pastel painting is rooted in love. The few thoughts that he shared with me about his life in the country resonated with me in a way that is hard to describe. I found in this moment and in him a genuine feeling of peace, of connection, and that I then and still now experience as a lasting feeling of creative inspiration.

I wanted to take as much time as I needed to. Observe, study and paint every inch of his being. For hours, paint all of his subtle layers. Each one of his pores, turned into art, until I have the slight idea of what it would feel like to truly know the root of his heart.

These things I am trying to say, these feelings I am trying to share, I wanted them all in this painting, in harmomy, in colour, in unity.
