Mather, Portrait #1

This portrait was done on Pastel Premier paper ( white ). The preliminary drawing was done in charcoal ( linear ) and hard pastel to block-in ( NuPastel & Caran D'Ache, Diane Townsend, dark set ). The background was washed with hard pastel and denatured alcohol. The painting was built up with Rembrandts and the top layers were done with Blue Earth, Girault, Schmincke, Terry Ludwig and Unison soft pastels. Some of the details were done with pastel pencils ( Caran d'Ache & Giaconda ) The model's name is Mather Louth. She is a professional art model, who has sat for me often. I have recently started a series of portraits of her. She is a wonderful muse. This is painting #1.
