Frying Pan Glow

This painting began as a class demonstration of a charcoal wash underpainting. After completing the sketch with deep black compressed charcoal, I brushed over the charcoal with alcohol. I then layered pastels overtop. The first layers were usually blended and subsequent layers of softer pastels were left. This was all accomplished on a homemade panel made with Wallis paper (that I found at a yard sale!)
