The Society of Friends has a wonderful property in our town that dates back to the 1600s and it is one of the oldest Quaker properties on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. I have painted there several times. This painting depict a cottage on the property that dates back to the property's earliest days. I could imagine the people that lived used to live there and I loved the afternoon sunlight that lit up the front facade as well as the dappling of light in between tree shadows on the roof and the tree shadows on the ground. I wanted to capture this bucolic scene that speaks to an earlier time before it disappears. I painted on UArt 500 grit paper using hard pastel under painting with Gamsol and a variety of soft pastels to complete the work.
