Beside the Lake

When driving through my local park recently, I saw this striking group of trees against a beautiful blue sky and lake. I had to paint it! My underpainting was based on dry pastels which were then dampened with water to create a transparent watercolor-like base. Using complementary colors in the trees helped to create the powerful contrast I was looking for.
