Oak Alight

During a last blast of warmth in November, I headed out for a final plein air session. The sun lit up this patch of dried oak leaves, turning them to magic, and I had to paint it. Started with a warm underpainting of dark browns and wines with a few splashes of light orange. Then proceeded abstractly, filling in movement, shape, and edge to create the impression of leaves blowing in the autumn sun.
