Kayakers at Dawn

I used pastel paper that I gessoed with clear gesso for extra texture. I used soft pastels by colorblock to create this misty, morning piece. I tried to capture the feeling of these 2 kayakers setting out on an early morning to watch the sunrise come up over the mountains on this New Hampshire lake. The mists of the early morning were just beginning to clear as the sun was starting to show through the clouds. The water on the lake was perfectly still except where their paddles hit the water. The scene was very peaceful as the day was beginning to unfold. The full color of the surroundings hidden by the early morning mists would come into focus unveiling the verdant green of the mountains.
